Are we actually in a recession right now? I have heard of various cash points being out of cash for long periods of time, as iff (some) have recognised the fact and are withdrawing cash whilst they still can.

If there is a run on the banks in the UK, then things will rapidly get worse.

cor - this was a long time back, but not wrong! I think everyones having problems with money at the moment including the government! Doesn't help us though, we have to struggle through. The government can simply ask for more tax to help them through.
